Unique Gift Baskets
When I am fresh out of Gift Idea on what to buy for someone for the holidays, a birthday, or a special event, I often turn to the great idea of buying gift baskets. Though this makes things a little easier, I still have to find something to put into them. You can buy a lot of them that are already made, but I really enjoy buying an empty basket and finding things to fill it up on my own. No matter what you decide to do, you can be sure it will be a great gift for almost anyone on your list.If you want to buy gift baskets there are almost an unlimited number of places to get them. Almost any store has them for sale, at least around the holidays, or you can go to a store that specializes in them. If you find a great sale on gift baskets, you may want to buy a bunch of them so you have some lying around if you need them. You don’t want to get any that might have perishable items in them if you want to save them, but most of the ones you can buy will be good to go if you put them into a closet until you need them. Just make sure they have no expired items in them before you give them out.

I always loved getting gift baskets, even if I don’t like everything inside. I do think that most people who buy them do put some thought into what they are getting. If they take the time to build a basket you should make sure you put on a happy face if you don’t like it. Those who take the time to build gift baskets are really hoping you will love what you get them because they put so much time into them. They may hope you like a gift, but gift baskets are extra special if they are made with you in mind. Even if you don’t like the contents, that doesn’t mean you don’t have to like the idea and work they put into it.

Gift Idea baskets are also a great idea for those you don’t know very well. If you need to get a small gift for a coworker or your boss, you can get them an inexpensive basket with something that most people like. You can also do this for your mail carrier or anyone else you may want to give a little something to around the holidays. Though I wouldn’t recommend giving them instead of cash to someone you would normally tip, they can be a great gift for someone who may not be expecting anything for you. Most people put a lot of effort into picking out birthday, Christmas, and other holiday presents, but I think that unexpected gifts are the best. After all, buying someone a present on their birthday – no matter how great a present it is – is simply a matter of fulfilling an obligation. They expect you to get them a gift. When you send someone a unique gift basket, a trinket, or even greeting card when it is unexpected, however, it can really do a lot to brighten up their day. I have been a fan of unique gift baskets for years, and I constantly surprise my friends with the things I give them.

The first time I ever sent a gift unexpectedly was when I was involved in a long-distance relationship. My girlfriend was a little bit depressed, and when I sent her gift basket flowers in the mail, she was absolutely overjoyed. Even knowing it was a small token of my affection, it made herself happy to receive it. It completely surprised her when she got home. She got to come home to a lovely bouquet of flowers, complete with a gift card.

Seeing how happy that present made her made me really think about the potential unique gift baskets have for lightening someone’s mood. About a week later, I was walking around town when I saw an old comic that one of my friends used to own. Although he had since lost it, when he was a kid it had been one of his favorite comics. I bought it, wrote a personal message, added a few action figures that he had always admired which I’d saved from my childhood, and sent it off to him. He absolutely loved it. If I had sent him, say, chocolates or a wine gift basket, it would have made him happy. When he got this particular unique gift basket, however, he was absolutely overjoyed.

I think one of the most important things when you’re buying presents for people is to give a personal touch. People really appreciate knowing that you are thinking of them. Sending someone flowers, gourmet foods, or expensive coffee is nice, but sending someone something that they never would have expected is even better. This is why unique gift baskets are such a great idea. They show someone not only that you thought of them enough to buy them a present, but also that you were already thinking of them when you stumbled upon the perfect gift by chance. Unique gift baskets are a great way to show you really care.

Gifts for a Friend Down on His or Her Fortune

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

A few days ago, I talked with a family friend who recently learned that his huge manufacturing company was closing his plant. He is actually more fortunat than most of his co-workers. He very recently reached the magic age at which he qualifies for early retirement, so he will continue to have a steady (although much smaller) income. Those who did not reach that milestone of the specified number of years with the company will get a small severance package and be left to search for a job in that difficult market. That caused me to think about giving gifts for special occasions to those people who are experiencing difficult economic situations. I came up with a few ideas that make more sense than a piece of home decor or a new tie. Here are some of them:

A gourmet fruit basket is healthy, beautiful, delicious and always enjoyed. If you live near your gift recipient, you can find a lovely basket or other attractive container and fill it with fruit that is in season in your region of the country, obtained at a farmers market, and fill it out with a few exotic fruits picked up at your local super market. If your loved one is farther away, you can arrange for any of a large range of beautiful fruit gift baskets to be delivered to the recipient’s home. It will help them to reduce their grocery bill on their next trip to the super market.

A special meal is another way to remember a birthday or holiday. One possibility might be to take the friend or family member to a popular local restaurant. If price is no object to you, be sure to recommend a couple of the more expensive entrees on the menu, so that your guests know that they should not worry about ordering what they want. For example, you might say something like, “The crab legs are wonderful here, but, if you don’t like seafood, try the tender and tasty filet mignon.” If they live too far away for that, you can actually find delicious, gourmet, chef-prepared meals online that arrive frozen and can be heated in almost no time. (I actually keep my freezer stocked with these.)

A final recommendation is a scrumptious dessert. Now, lets face it, nobody should indluge in too many desserts, but on a birthday, anniversary or holiday, everyone deserves a chance to feel a little pampered. Bake cookies, if that is a skill of yours, and hand deliver or have them delivered. For something a little more special consider giving them a delicious pie or a New York cheesecake. Whether you make it yourself or have others do the work for you doesn’t matter. It will be appreciated and definitely enjoyed either way.

You’ll notice a common feature in these suggestions. They all involve food. Someone who is going through a difficult time may not want to accept charity, but nobody can reject a genuinely special gift. If it reduces the grocery bill by a bit, so much the better.
